Current Flag:
Ugh. This is such a bad flag. New York is my home state, and I know that there’s so much symbolism they could include in this! Where is that symbolism?
My Redesign:
I used elements from England and The Netherlands, which are both countries that colonized New York. The cross of St. George, and English symbol, is orange on a field of blue, which are Dutch colors. The rose in the middle is the one that is featured on the flag of Yorkshire, which New York is named after. Any elements you see that I didn’t explain are for purely aesthetic reasons.
